Did you know that in the US, one of ten pregnant women is a teen mother? Statistics show that every year over 750,000 teenage girls will get pregnant. More that 2/3 of the teenage girls that get pregnant will not graduate from high school. And unmarried pregnant teens make up for the 24% of the unwed mothers in our country today.
This means, sexually active teenagers are a serious problem we must look at. The question that is most common in a sexually active teenager’s mind is where to have sex. But so many teens have sex without even thinking of what might happen to them. What happens when the girl gets pregnant? What will you, either girl or boy, do with your life now? Your life has changed dramatically.
Even if schools are teaching their students about sexual education, they’re only teaching them about abstinence. Most teens are coming more and more light-minded which means, they probably won’t listen. If these teens do have sex and the girl gets pregnant, they aren’t educated well enough on what kind of decisions they could make.
What would make this situation easier is if schools could teach all ways of teen pregnancy, such as talking about adoption, abortion, and even teen parenting. Most parents might not agree with this teaching because they might think it’s just another way in influencing their child to have sex. But most teens aren’t comfortable talking to their parents about these types of things so learning it in school without hearing their parents always nagging would be easier for these teens. Also, schools could even have more resources they can provide for these teen parents. They could have guess speakers to talk about their experiences, show some documentaries and so much more to help these students out.
So what I’m saying is that schools should not only teach their students about abstinence, but they should also teach them about all ways on how to deal with teen pregnancy. It’s a brilliant and efficient process that could help with today’s future.

I like how you mentioned having guest speakers coming in, which is really good for teens to hear from someone who has experienced teen pregnancy. I like how you pointed out that teen pregnancy programs hone in on staying abstinent instead of teaching ALL the ways of teen pregnancy.
